The opportunity to collaborate with the most talented people in the industry. I remember when I first arrived, my office was across from former Disney Animation president Ed Catmull, and I was working directly with Eric Daniels in the first week. He is a technical achievement Academy Award winner for his work on "Deep Canvas" for Tarzan, and just so happened to describe the work involved in the special features on the Tarzan DVD which I watched around the time I began university. It was a catalyst in making me believe I could contribute my skill set to this industry I have always loved. It might seem far fetched, but that special feature really did help pave the way and steer my studies toward animation. My first week at Disney Animation was a very good week.
Decent fundamentals and some sort of artistic flair. Polish isn't important and don't be afraid of adding work in progress. When I look at an artist's portfolio I try to imagine what trajectory they might have at the Studio and how the artist could grow here.
If you love the work you do and genuinely care about your colleagues, you're on a good path and will be noticed.
How annoying my hair has become. I haven't had a haircut in a long time and it's now at that length where it falls in front of my eyes. It's best described as a mop.
Growing up, Atlantis: The Lost Empire stood out to me; I really liked that style of adventure film. The fact that it featured a scholar as the protagonist spoke to me as a nerdy kid. I also adore the graphic, angular art style and think it really sets the film apart.
